What it's like to be an Eye Design studio model

Recently, Eye Design owner and Master Technician Nadia Afanaseva has been helping her team expand their skills. While growth is always a big part of our core values here at Eye Design, it has become even more important now that we are broadening the treatments we offer.

Don’t be fooled by our name--Eye Design caters to more than just brows and lashes! Our semi-permanent lip makeup procedure is rapidly gaining popularity at our Fifth Avenue studio. In order to cater to all of our clients, more of our technicians need to undergo training for this technique.

With all of this training comes the need for live models, so you may have seen the abundance of castings all over our social media. (Never miss out! Follow us @nadia_afanaseva and @eye_design_ny for updates.)

Eye Design experts you trust, such as Senior Tech Daniela and Advanced Tech Olga, are in the process of learning new techniques. You already know longtime brow and lash artists Daniela and Olga can transform your eyes. Now, it is time to let them transform your lips, too!

While your eyes frame your face, adding semi-permanent lip makeup is the perfect way to tie the entire look together. A full face of beauty by Eye Design’s professionals will have you looking polished and put-together 24/7! The demand for other procedures, like semi-permanent lip makeup, is what makes the need for new skills so important to our team.

We are so thankful for our studio models who allow us to put our skills to the test time after time. Ever wondered what it’s like to be in their shoes? Here are all the details you need to know before joining us for a modeling session…

Castings are posted on Instagram 1 to 2 weeks in advance. Models send their submissions to us via email and are required to include the following in order to be considered:

  • The procedure they would like (this should be in the subject line)
  • Selfies or close-up photos in good lighting (no makeup or filters, please!)
  • Their contact info (a cell phone number is best)

(When castings are held last minute, we typically ask all who are interested to direct message Nadia as opposed to emailing the Eye Design team. Nadia is an expert in choosing which models would be best for each technique.)

After completing their consent forms, models are ready for their treatment with us! Those who are modeling for any of our semi-permanent beauty treatments (microblading, Powder Effect, lip makeup and beyond) are required to prepare for their sessions by avoiding common blood thinners, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, caffeine and alcohol, in the 24 to 48 hours before their treatments.

Excessive bleeding during these treatments can cause the model to heal with blurry, pale results. Additionally, it can put the model at a much higher risk of infection. (We advise our paying clients to abide by this rule, too!)

Models at Eye Design are typically booked for four hours. While our treatments do not usually take this long, models often serve as live demos for our professional training workshops. Our technicians need to perform the procedure thoroughly, while students observe every single detail, no matter how small. This is why we always allow for extra time.
